Daniel was up against the king of the jungle, but more importantly it was a showdown between God and man.
Even in zoos, we see lions as ferocious beasts. Their brute strength can bring down even the strongest man. Yet when Daniel faced them, it wasn't his strenth that protected him, but God's. In the end, they were as peaceful as lambs.
